𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒 | TPBIDC, TAU team-up to celebrate inaugural bamboo fest

In celebration of bamboo month this September, the Tarlac Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council (TPBIDC) partnered with the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) in conducting the very first Tarlakauayan Festival at the TAU Student and Alumni Center Amphitheater, and TAU Oval, 19-20 September with the theme “The Bamboo: Rooting Its Way To A More Sustainable Province”.

The event featured a variety of activities including a Bamboo Summit, Seminars, Bamboo Exhibit, Sports Fest, Bamboo Quiz Bee for senior high school students, Bamboo Arts and Crafts Contest 2024 titled “Search for the Most Innovative Products in the Food & Non Food Categories”, and simultaneous bamboo planting activity in collaboration with the local government units and national government agencies across the province.

In his opening message, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC Salunson warmly welcomed the officials stating “Bamboo is more than just a grass; it represents sustainability, flexibility, and resilience—elements that all of us must possess in light of the environmental crises we face today. Hence, TAU takes pride in advocating for environmental stewardship and sustainability as a preeminent provider of agricultural education”.

“Bamboo, often known as “green gold,” has the power to drastically alter not just the state of our environment but also the livelihood of a great number of Filipinos, particularly in Tarlac. Our university has made a commitment to funding initiatives pertaining to bamboo, ranging from capacity-building and industry partnerships to research and innovation.” he added.

In addition, Hon. Susan A. Yap, Governor of Tarlac Province extends her heartfelt message through her representative Ms. Krishna Buenaventura, PG ENRO Acting Head in the Province of Tarlac.

During the first day of the event, participants actively engaged in bamboo-themed seminars, a Bamboo Arts and Crafts Contest 2024, and a ribbon-cutting activity at the Bamboo Exhibit Area as it showcased innovative products using bamboo. General participants from sectors were treated to informative discussions on bamboo propagation, technologies for engineered bamboo, and innovations in multi-functional bamboo furniture and construction materials.

On the second day, the TAU Responders assisted in the Bamboo Sports Fest for senior high school students held at the TAU Oval following the awarding ceremony during the closing program. Ms. Celia Esteban of PENRO Tarlac thanked the concerted efforts of the local government, TAU, and the private sector for the success of this event.
