A proud moment for student journalism at Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) unfolded as its official tertiary student publication, Golden Harvest, returned to the 5th Young Journalists Press Freedom Congress (YJPFC) and earned 20 podium finishes across online and onsite competitions in Orani, Bataan on 27 August 2026.
The achievement marks a significant improvement in the publicationโs recent YJPFC campaigns, with five wins in one year and three in the succeeding edition. This yearโs performance brought Golden Harvestโs total to 20 podium finishes, comprising 15 plaques from its online competition entries and five medals from the onsite contests.
The publicationโs performance was highlighted by its A-List E-Magazine entry, โWaiting Shed Republic,โ which was recognized as the 5th Best Magazine overall in Central Luzon.
โWaiting Shed Republicโ earned distinctions in several categories, including 1st Place in Cover Page, 2nd Place in Published Photos, and 3rd Place in Editorial Page. It also placed 5th in Best Page Design, 6th in Development Communication Page, 6th in Opinion Page, and 8th in Literary Page.
Golden Harvest likewise made its presence felt in the A-List Social Media Page competitions, earning six placements out of 13 categories and contributing to the publicationโs 7th Place overall finish in the category.
Among the individual awardees were John Bernard Doria, who placed 1st in Animated Cartoon and 2nd in Comic Strip; Jayron Mark Dela Cruz, who earned 2nd Place in Development Communication; and Earl Lawrence Duran, who secured 6th Place in Infographics.
Completing the publicationโs social media placements were Marian Ardel Quilpa, who placed 7th in News, and Micah Alysa Laurio, who earned 9th Place in News Photo.
The publication also recorded notable results in the onsite competitions. Editor-in-Chief Gerald Bedania placed 3rd in Journalistic Position Writing โ Filipino, while Associate Editor for Publications Marc Joshua Dela Cruz earned 7th Place in Journalistic Position Writing โ English.
Meanwhile, three members of the Golden Harvest creative team received individual recognitions in the inaugural Collaborative Brand Designing contest. Opinion Editor Lindsay Belle Cruz placed 5th in Brand Voice, Chief Layout Artist Frances Rona Bartolo secured 8th Place in Visual Identity, and Senior Layout Artist Earl Lawrence Duran finished 10th in Logo Design.
The 5th YJPFC brought together 401 campus journalists from across Central Luzon as part of the annual celebration of Press Freedom Day. The congress provided student journalists with an avenue to develop and showcase their skills in writing, editing, visual storytelling, publication design, and digital media.
For Golden Harvest, the results represent not only a collection of awards but also the collective effort of its student journalists and publication staff who continue to hone their craft and participate in platforms that promote responsible campus journalism and press freedom.
The achievement is likewise a reflection of the Universityโs continuing support for student development and the important role of campus publications in cultivating informed, responsible, and socially engaged young communicators.
