The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) recently highlighted academic excellence and camaraderie as students gathered for the VKV-VLV Local Veterinary Quiz Contest, held at the College of Education (CEd) Audio-Visual Room on 13 February. Organized by the VKV Fraternity-VLV Sorority IOTA Chapter - TAU, the event united aspiring veterinarians from various year levels in a dynamic and engaging competition that challenged their knowledge, teamwork, and ability to stay composed under pressure.

A total of 34 teams, each composed of three members from third- to sixth-year veterinary students, competed in the quiz bee. The contest aimed to strengthen students' mastery of veterinary concepts while encouraging healthy academic competition and collaboration among peers.ย

In her opening remarks, Dr. Lavina Gracia P. Ramirez, CVM Dean, emphasized the importance of academic competitions in shaping future professionals. She described the event as both a privilege and a valuable learning opportunity, noting that it gives students a broader understanding of veterinary science. Encouraging sportsmanship and unity, she reminded participants to play honestly and support one another so that more students would feel inspired to represent the university in competitions beyond campus.

The competition was adjudicated by a panel of quiz masters composed of Dr. Allan Jeffrey A. Francia, Dr. Shekinah Phoebe S. Baccay, Dr. Mc Joe D. Lagula, and Dr. Jericho R. Baguistan. The quiz bee featured four rounds: Easy, Average, Individual, and Difficult. Each round contained 10 questions that gradually increased in complexity to challenge the contestants.

After an intense and closely contested match, Teamog Silangan emerged as champion with 82 points. The winning team, composed of fourth-year veterinary students Miguel Agustin D. Galang, Franciane Mae B. Muรฑoz, and Charlie Jane C. Tamondong, demonstrated strong teamwork and consistent performance throughout the contest.

Placing as first runner-up was Team 6-7 with 78 points, represented by fifth-year veterinary students April Ann Francisco, Jahmil Magsombol, and Rhealyn Regua. The second runner-up team, which earned 71 points, was composed of third-year students Avril Daniela Arellano, Michael M. P. Fernando Jr., and Angela Pauline O. Tagaro.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top teams, with 1,500 pesos for the champion, 1,000 pesos for first place, and 500 pesos for second place. In addition to the prizes, the champion team earned the opportunity to represent TAU at the upcoming National Veterinary Quiz Contest to be held at the University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos on 17 March.
