The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) through its Gender and Development Office (GAD) initiated a film viewing and seminar centered on the vital role of men in supporting women for selected male university officials led by GAD MOVE KaTROPA (Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere - Kalalakihang Tapat at Responsable sa Pamilya) on 25 March, at the Student and Alumni Center Amphitheater.
Carrying the theme โMen as Partners in Supporting Women,โ the activity formed part of the universityโs observance of National Womenโs Month, transforming the venue into a space for reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to gender equality. Faculty members and employees participated in the event, engaging in conversations that underscored respect, shared responsibility, and inclusivity.
The event was used as a springboard for deeper reflection on how our daily actions and our attitudes contribute to either perpetuating or dismantling gender bias. This was then followed by a seminar where positive masculinity was emphasized, with a focus on how men played an integral part not only as allies but also as advocates against gender-based discrimination and violence.
The organizers of the activity emphasized how this activity was also meant to enhance cooperation within the university community, with both men and women working hand-in-hand to ensure a safer academic environment. This activity was also meant to reinforce Gender and Development (GAD) principles and was in line with TAUโs ongoing initiatives to raise awareness and consciousness within its community.
In a message, MOVE-KATROPA President Dr. Angelo P. Guillermo, emphasized the importance of collective action, saying, โPanahon na para baguhin ang pananaw na ang pagiging haligi ay hindi lamang pagbibigay ng pananalapi. โ
Through initiatives like this, TAU continues to move beyond awareness toward action, empowering its stakeholders to become active partners in building a more inclusive and equitable future.
