At just 19 years old, Rainier already carries the poise of a seasoned chess player. Hailing from Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, he is currently a Second-Year College student in the College of Business Management (CBM), balancing academic responsibilities with the mental rigor of competitive chess. His journey into the world of black and white squares began early during his elementary years, sparked by a powerful and enduring influence of his father.
More than just an introduction to the game, Rainierโs father became his first mentor, shaping not only his skills but also his discipline, patience, and love for the sport. Their father-and-son bond, forged over countless matches and shared lessons, laid the foundation for Rainierโs growth as a chess player. It is a reminder that behind every sharp mind is often a guiding hand, one that teaches, supports, and believes.
Today, Rainier continues to sharpen his strategies by actively joining various chess tournaments across the province and even in neighboring provinces.
