Five Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students from Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) College of Engineering and Technology (CET) led the charge in developing breakthrough solutions to improve the Universityโ€™s information consolidation mechanisms during the Hackathon competition at the Bamboo Training Center on 14-15 April.

Designing cutting-edge systems to address critical institutional challenges, Team Nexus claimed the Vanguard Award (Champion, โ‚ฑ15,000) for FeedForward, a pioneering feedback platform solving inefficiencies in data collection at the Quality Assurance (QA) Office. The system introduces QR-code accessibility, automated reporting, and real-time dashboards to streamline satisfaction assessments for administrative compliance.

The winning team consisted of Angelo Dinong, Caleb Steven A. Lagunilla, Karl Patrick S. Mandapat, Rhenz Isaiah R. Garbin, and Charles M. Aguilar was mentored by Dr. Eugene S. Valeriano, Director of Planning and Development Office (PDO). The groupโ€™s system directly addressed the problem introduced by QA Director Dr. Jerome D. Soriano, who sought ways to remove manual feedback delays using AI-integrated software.

Team leader Dinong emphasized the practical benefits of FeedForward, which he said โ€œeliminates paperwork delays, ensuring QA gets accurate data immediately," referencing the systemโ€™s faster responses to client concerns.

First runner-up 403 - Access Denied won the Trailblazer Award (โ‚ฑ10,000) for the groupโ€™s Human Resource (HR) mobile solution, tackling problems concerning enabling off-site access to payroll, leave requests, and policy updates. Meanwhile, 2nd runner-up RedLine (Innovator Award, โ‚ฑ7,000) developed a Key Result Areas (KRA)-alignment tool for faculty, while 404 - Not Found and Nonchalant earned Warrior Awards (โ‚ฑ3,000 each) as 3rd and 4th runners-up.

The Hackathon was organized by the PDO - Management Information System (MIS) in collaboration with CETโ€™s Computer Studies Department and DevCon Pampanga Chapter. Judges includingย  Dr. Edmar N. Franquera,ย  Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (VPRET); Mr. Miguel Castro. Lead of AWS User Group Pangasinan; Ms. Yolanda F. Juan, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO); andย  Mr. Ruben John B. Fajardo, Head of Digital Media Production Laboratory praised the projectsโ€™ real-world applicability and reflection of TAUโ€™s commitment to advancing student-led innovation.

Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) has sent its largest contingent yet to the State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) National Games in Camiguin, with 16 athletes competing in Athletics, Archery, Arnis, Chess, Karatedo, Womenโ€™s Basketball, and Menโ€™s Volleyball.ย

Embarking on an arduous 58-hour journey beginning 17 April, the TAU team, accompanied by eight officials and support staff, traveled by coaster, ferry, bus, cargo ship, and jeepney to reach the island province in Region 10 by 20 April. Their collective determination mirrors TAUโ€™s enduring aspirations to champion sporting excellence, fresh off a historic medal haul at the SCUAA III Regional Games in Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) last February.

TAUโ€™s athletes are riding a wave of momentum after clinching 35 gold medals at the regional leg. The Carabaos also amassed 96 medals overall, securing a top 5 finish among 14 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Central Luzon.ย

Despite logistical challenges, Team TAU remains undaunted. The delegationโ€™s marathon travel to Camiguin included multiple transfers, but athletes like Arnis standout Jeng Jeng Baldado see it as motivation: โ€œThe tiring adventure fuels us. Weโ€™re proud to represent TAU and Central Luzon.โ€

Sending his warmest felicitation, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson expressed confidence that TAUians would continue to bring honor and glory to their Alma Mater. โ€œYour TAU family are cheering for you even if weโ€™re hundreds of kilometers away,โ€ Dr. Salunson continued.

Meanwhile, as the SCUAA Nationals kick off on 23 April, all eyes are on TAUโ€™s promising contenders like 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup gold medalist Merry Joy I. Trupa and FISU World University Games (WUG) qualifier Allyssa Faye R. Felipe.

TAU Sports Development Office (SDO) Director Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu expressed his sincerest gratitude for the safe arrival of the Universityโ€™s flag bearers in Northern Mindanao. โ€œIโ€™ve witnessed firsthand the efforts and sacrifices of our athletes, coaches, and trainers in preparing for this moment,โ€ Dr. Cuzzamu remarked.ย

He also emphasized that the support from the TAU administration, coupled with the regionโ€™s strong backing, has been instrumental in sharpening the skills, building stamina, and cultivating a champion mindset for the TAU athletes. According to Dr. Cuzzamu, the University has already taken concrete steps to modernize sports infrastructure and increase incentives, underpinning its institutional goal to pioneer sports and wellness tourism and education in northwestern Tarlac.

Meanwhile, Dr. Salunson mentioned that TAU is planning to upgrade training facilities, expand participation in local, national, and international tournaments, and launch its BS Exercise and Sports Science program to produce world-class athletes and sports professionals.
