In an era where the rhythmic clack of handlooms grows increasingly faint, Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) is taking a definitive stand to revive a critical piece of Philippine heritage. Recognizing handloom weaving as a dying cultural practice, the University has actively partnered in an initiative to ensure these traditional skills are not lost to future generations.ย

With robust support from the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT) and the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO), this vital mission was activated through a five-day intensive training on Basic Handloom Weaving, spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) at Diwa ng Tarlac from 6-10 October.

The said program united TAU representatives from the College of Education (CEd) and College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) with the Mayap Tarlac Crocheter Livelihood Association. For TAU, the training was a strategic step towards enriching its academic offerings and embedding cultural preservation into its core curriculum.
