The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) conducts a simultaneous flag-raising ceremony across various colleges and units, fostering solidarity while delivering important updates and initiatives to the academic community, 24 March.

Starting the first day of work onsite, TAU officials, employees, faculty members, and students from the College of Business and Management (CBM) and College of Education (CED) gather at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) - Library Building, under the facilitation of the TAU Gender and Development (GAD) - MOVE-KATROPA (Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere - Kalalakihang Tapat at Responsable sa Pamilya).

In line with the celebration of National Womenโ€™s Month, Dr. Angelo announces a film viewing scheduled tomorrow at the Alumni and Student Center Amphitheater, intended for male employees as part of gender awareness efforts. Meanwhile, Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) Dr. Arnold R. Lorenzo shares an inspiring message emphasizing the value of holiness, integrity, and purpose-driven service in both personal and professional life.

Meanwhile, University President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson attends the ceremony at the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) and mentions the following updates: the memorandum from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) pertaining to the evaluation of the teaching effectiveness of the University's teaching staff is still under review; the good news from the TSTAU bill that has hurdled the third reading and will be forwarded to the Senate for approval; and the market survey on Germinated Brown Rice (GBR) that will soon be conducted to obtain relevant data from the university's 45 students and 45 employees.

On the wellness concerns of the University personnel, it was clarified that the teaching staff is not yet included in the wellness program; however, they may still apply for a wellness leave. The proposed four-day class schedule, as earlier mentioned by Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, is still being considered and depends on student-related factors.

Simultaneously, at the Colleges of Engineering and Technology (CET), Arts and Sciences (CAS), and Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the ceremony is hosted by the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. Dr. Leonell P. Lijauco graces the event, while Dr. Ruben A. Parazo, Dean of CET, formally introduces Engr. Cedrick Eleazar as the newest faculty member of the Department of Geodetic Engineering. In a solemn moment, Dr. Lavina Gracia M. Ramirez, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, expresses deep sorrow over the passing of a second-year student, calling for prayers and solidarity within the university community.

Through these simultaneous gatherings, TAU continues to strengthen communication, reinforce shared values, and uphold its commitment to responsive and compassionate service across all its academic units.

For the first time in its history, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) played host to this yearโ€™s edition of Science and Technology Youth Leadership Encampment (STYLE), gathering young leaders, officials, faculty members, and staff from 15 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the Philippines from 23 to 25 March.

The encampment carried the theme โ€œBuilding Smarter Communities: Youth Leadership in Responsible AI and Emerging Technologiesโ€ and marked a significant achievement for TAU, which took over hosting duties from last yearโ€™s organizer, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP).

In his message during the opening ceremony, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson greeted the delegates before highlighting the role of youth in championing Science, Mathematics, and Technology, which he called the โ€œengines of progress.โ€

โ€œToday, more than ever, the world turns to the young, to you, to champion the fields of Science, Mathematics, and Technology. It is through your curiosity, your critical thinking, and your passion for innovation that we will cultivate a generation capable of solving the most pressing challenges of our time,โ€ Dr. Salunson shared.

The program continued with a video message from Dr. Edwin F. Cadorna, UNP President and Chairperson of the Philippine Consortium for Science, Mathematics, and Technology (PCSMT), followed by the Statement of Purpose delivered by Dr. Joseph G. Taban, PCSMT Secretary.

Ms. Karen Y. Daรฑez, Tarlacโ€™s Provincial Science and Technology Director, then delivered the keynote address and focused on the idea that a smart community is people-centric, where technology is used to solve real problems. โ€œBehind every AI system are human decisions that define its impact. You (students) will shape how technology shapes societyโ€ Ms. Daรฑez added.

After the presentation of Mr. and Ms. PCSMT candidates, Mr. Aaron P. Villena, PCSMT National Student Chapter President, announced the activities, guidelines, and mechanics for the three-day event.

A total of 87 participants joined the encampment, according to the official delegation breakdown. Among the participating SUCs were Abra State Institute of Science and Technology, Batangas State University, Bulacan State University, Benguet State University, Cagayan State University, Central Luzon State University, Ifugao State University, Mountain Province State University, Pangasinan State University, Quirino State University, Sultan Kudarat State University, Tarlac State University, University of Rizal System, University of Northern Philippines, and Tarlac Agricultural University..

The program was packed with activities designed to develop leadership and technical skills among the youth. Day one featured the opening program. Day two comprises team-building activities, a seminar on the eventโ€™s theme, and simultaneous contests such as the Search for PCSMT Ambassadors, photo contest, and essay writing contest.

The encampment will conclude on Day three with the awarding of winners, impressions from participants, and the oath-taking of the incoming set of PCSMT student chapter officers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Milani C. Petero, PCSMT Coordinator for TAU, reiterated the Consortiumโ€™s guiding principles in her message to TAUโ€™s Information Unit. โ€œWith TAU taking on a leadership role, the 2026 STYLE serves as a solid springboard for ongoing academic involvement among SUCs, where STEM education initiatives continue to drive innovation, strengthen research culture, and prepare learners for the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape,โ€ she underscored.

As the first-time host, TAU, through its leadership, expressed its profound gratitude to the delegates and organizers, acknowledging that while many more had hoped to attend, the spirit of learning and camaraderie remained strong among the SUCs represented.
