ย
In cooperation with the Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) Central Luzon and the Office of Senator Grace Poe (OSGP), the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) facilitated the Binhi ng Pag-asa Provincial Summit at the TAU Farmerโ€™s Training Center (FTC) from 7-8 November.
ย
Said initiative involved delegates from different local government units (LGUs) in Tarlac, aimed to develop the knowledge and skills of participants in agriculture and entrepreneurship-related programs, and sought to inculcate a deeper understanding in agriculture.
ย
In its recent engagement with TAU, DA-ATI Region III conducted a capacity building activity that brought together graduates of the 2024 Binhi ng Pag-asa Program (BPP) across Tarlac. The activity provided a competition in three categories such as BPP project pitching, policy-making competition, and municipal video competition. Participants from the towns of the whole province who joined the capacity building and ranked first in each category will represent their municipality in the upcoming national summit.
As an advocate of agricultural education, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, TAU President, reaffirmed his commitment to empowering the youth through transformative learning programs, aligning with the United Nationsโ€™ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 1 No Poverty and SDG 2 Zero Hunger.
ย
DA-ATI Region III, a reliable and dependent partner of TAU, continues to provide opportunities for the region's young farmers and entrepreneurs. Through its partner institutions, it focuses on advancements in agricultural technologies developed from sustainable practices which hones the skills of its target beneficiaries.

Promoting goat production as a sustainable livelihood
ย
In line with these efforts, the TAU - Department of Extension and Training (DET) was also chosen to be one of the partners for the Goat Production Training. With a total of 19 batches, students from TAU - College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) engaged in a series of training led by some of the pioneers in agriculture and research namely: Dr. Ma. Asuncion G. Beltran, former TAU Vice-President for Research Extension and Training (VP-RET); TAU - College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) faculty members, Dr. Annalie B. Paragas and Dr. Allan Jeffrey E. Francia; and College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) faculty member Mr. Aris E. Rayo.
ย
Through the hands-on demonstrations, trainees were equipped with knowledge in goat raising and assessing the goat's health as a preparation in real-life scenarios. These activities were followed by the submission of an action plan as a primary requirement in receiving goats which served as the โ€œbinhiโ€ from the programโ€™s theme โ€œBinhi ng Pag-asaโ€ (Seeds of Hope).
Meanwhile, Dr. Agnes C. Perey, the Director of the TAU Department of Extension and Training extended her heartfelt gratitude to the DA-ATI and the OSGP for including the TAU young farmers as target beneficiaries of the said program and emphasized the importance of gaining practical skills in the field of goat raising.โ€œThrough the โ€˜Binhi ng Pag-asaโ€™ program, our beneficiaries were able to offer meaningful contributions beyond the agriculture industry," she said.
