Through the project Enhanced Research and Development Leadership to Foster an Inclusive Research Ecosystem (RDLead FIRE), faculty, researchers, and personnel from the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) engaged in a two-day training-workshop facilitated by the research and development leader (R&D) Dr. Antonio G. Lalusin at Farmers Training Center on 24 and 26 March.
With the vision of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) under its Administrative Order No. 002 s. of 2018 titled โGuidelines for the Implementation of the Accelerated R&D Program for Capacity Building of Research and Development Institutions and Industrial Competitiveness of the Science for Change (S4C) Program,โ TAU has been officially permitted to host an RD Lead through National Research Council of The Philippines (NCRP). The R&D Leadership Program (RDLead) is an initiative that helps improve the research capabilities of Higher Institutional Educations (HEIs).
In accordance with the Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Program of the DOST, Dr. Lalusin guided TAU experts in developing and enhancing the Universityโs research for sweet potato and other root crops which is one of the main flagship commodities of TAU.
During the first tranche of the project, Dr. Catherine DR. Pueyo, Chairperson of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE) of the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), and Ms. Aira F. Waje, Director of Rootcrops Research and Training Center , invited TAU research practitioners to participate in the orientation proper on NCRP membership, training on sweet potato production, research proposal development, paper publication writing, and workshop on crafting research proposals.
Meanwhile, Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, the Vice President on Research, Extension and Training (VPRET) emphasized the significance of the said activity during his message. โThis activity is a great way to mold scientists that will drive academic advancement of the University,โ he stated.
Dr. Lalusin, a distinguished professional in the field of research, will mentor TAU scientists for 12 months.
