The members of the Quality Management System (QMS) Core Team of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) underwent a mock audit on 3-4 October at the University Hostel Function Hall.

Participated in by the Top Management, headed by TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, together with his four vice presidents; the TAU-QMS Representative and Director for Quality Assurance Dr. Jerome D. Soriano; members of the QMS Internal Auditors, led by Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu as the Internal Lead Auditor (ILA); Document Control Coordinators, headed by Dr. Jay-Ar A. De Mayo as the Document Control Officer (DCO); College deans, department heads, office chiefs, and other TAU personnel as auditees, the mock audit was initiated by the Office of Quality Assurance (OQA) to assess if TAU's established QMS conforms with all the requirements of the audit standards; to assess if TAU had effectively implemented its planned arrangements, and to assess if the TAU QMS is capable of achieving the organization’s quality policy and objectives.

In his opening speech, Dr. Salunson declared that mock audit is one of the proactive measures to evaluate TAU procedures, policies, and systems in order to pinpoint areas that need utmost attention before the formal audit.

"This mock audit is an essential step that helps us assess our strengths and identify areas that we want to improve," he said. "By doing this, we guarantee that TAU runs in accordance with international best practices and at the highest standards."

Ms. Mary Glory Caunin, from the JBDC Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Consultancy, served as the auditor who evaluated the TAU QMS implementation in areas of organization, leadership, planning, support, operations, performance evaluation, and improvement.

Ms. Caunin clarified that the mock audit is not a fault-finding audit but an evaluation tool to assist the University in determining its compliance with quality system standards and its readiness for a re-certification audit.

The two-day mock audit involved interviews with several staff and personnel of the various units of the University, a review of documented information of process owners, and triangulation of the findings through ocular inspection.

During the closing program cum exit conference, Ms. Caunin presented her observations and a number of major and minor nonconformities which will serve as a guide for the auditees in their conduct of root cause analysis and the planning of measures to address these nonconformities. The University has then been advised to address the nonconformities before undergoing re-certification in the latter part of this year.

The TAU QMS team aspires the University to retain its ISO 9001:2015 certification to ensure a more responsive, more effective, and more efficient delivery of services to its identified interested parties.
