Following the risk-based analysis and Internal Quality Audit (IQA) training conducted in the first quarter of this year, and as part of the orientation thrust in delivering prompt and unparalleled quality services to all its stakeholders, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), through its Quality Assurance (QA) Office initiated yet another Awareness Training in accordance with the International Standard ISO 9001:2015 at the University's Agritourism Hostel Function Hall on 15 August.

Attended by administration officials, unit heads, and document control coordinators (DCCs), the said activity aimed to highlight the value of the interrelated participation of all employees, and to orient them about the general objective of ISO and its importance to the University. In addition, the activity was a step in the preparation for a surveillance audit by an ISO body later this year.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, TAU President, declared that his vision for the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 in TAU is to create a culture of continuous improvement that spreads all over the University wherein it is not only improving its processes but also reaffirming its commitment to quality education and service provision to its stakeholders.

"Imagine a university where every process is made easier, resources best utilized, and each member of our University is empowered enough to contribute towards collective success. It’s not just an idea – it is attainable by us via ISO 9001:2015."

Consequently, Dr. Salunson encouraged the participants to familiarize themselves with the principles, governing quality management, and basic concepts of the ISO 9001:2015 standards, so that they will "be equipped with the knowledge needed to contribute to our certification process, become ambassadors of quality in your respective departments and offices."

Ms. Mary Glory Caunin, ISO Consultant and trainer from JBDC Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Consultancy, served as the resource person for the whole-day training. She presented the salient features of ISO 9001:2015 and the TAU-established Quality Management System to educate the participants on how their specific duties play a critical role in the attainment of the University’s goals and objectives.

Ms. Caunin also gave an informative lecture on the seven Management Principles and discussed the ISO 9001:2015 clauses which include the context of organization, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jerome D. Soriano, the QA Director, commended the training participants for their involvement and dedication to learning. He expressed his belief that the knowledge acquired during the sessions would enable them to make impacts within their departments and support TAU’s objectives of excellence and innovation.

The completion of the one-day ISO training demonstrates the University's commitment to promoting a culture of high-quality service delivery and continual improvement. As TAU progresses, it remains resolute in its commitment to striving for greatness following established standards and best practices.
