MILESTONES | AACCUP certifies 2 CEd programs, retains level IV accreditation status

The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) Quality Assurance (QA) Office has announced the official recognition of two flagship programs of the College of Education (CEd) following their approval by the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

According to the QA, the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) and the Bachelor of Technology Livelihood Education (BTLEd) will also retain the Level IV accreditation status of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), the highest tier awarded by AACCUP.

The BTLEd program will offer specializations in Agriculture and Fishery Arts, Home Economics, and Information and Communication Technology, aligning with evolving industry demands and national development goals. Similarly, the BECEd program directs its focus on foundational childhood pedagogy to better address gaps in early education training.

Such changes reflect TAU-CEd’s commitment to curriculum innovation while preserving the rigorous quality that earned its Center of Excellence in Teacher Education—a distinction held by few Philippine higher education institutions.

Notably, QA clarified that the renamed programs are additions to TAU’s existing offerings, not replacements. The original BEEd and BSEd degrees remain available to students, ensuring continuity for current enrollees and flexibility for future applicants.

TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson commended CEd and QA for another remarkable distinction. “I am confident that TAU-CEd, with the backing of QA and the entire University community, will continue to reap success be it in accreditation, licensure examinations, research, and extension initiatives in the years to come,” Dr. Salunson stated.

BECEd Chairperson Dr. Rene G. Nanit shared the AACCUP decision. “will pose a challenge for the BECEd department to meet the expectations, particularly in curriculum, teaching and learning, performance in the licensure examinations, and employability of graduates.”

Dr. Nanit emphasized that sustaining Level IV status would require intensified focus on key areas, including research outputs and publications, copyright and patent initiatives, and community service. He also underscored the need for the new department to recommit to conducting community outreach programs and completing impact studies.

“We at the BECEd department are moving forward to pursue both local partnerships and external linkages,” Dr. Nanit continued.

“Malaking bagay ang matitipid natin sa resources, effort, and time dahil hindi na tayo mag-a-undergo sa preliminary visits sa level 1, 2, and 3. Nagpapasalamat ako sa tulong ng administration particularly the QA and other concerned offices,” Dr. Nanit conveyed.
