In recognition of the contributions of Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) in the internationalization (IZN) of the higher education sector, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) honored internationally-ranked colleges and universities, including Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), during the 2024 IZN Champions of Nation-building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City, 16 December.

TAU was awarded for its inclusion in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings (IR) and World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) in 2024.
Β
In THE IR, TAU maintained its position as Region III's top HEI, tying with Central Luzon State University (CLSU). Scoring 60.9 points, TAU ranked 801-1,000 globally and 9th among 56 PHEIs.

Also, TAU has been listed for the fourth consecutive year in the WURI Global Innovative Universities, placing just 10 spots shy of the Global Top 100. Among 65 PHEIs, TAU placed seventh nationally and led five Central Luzon HEIs.

These international university rankings publications are in line with the thrusts and priorities of TAU to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrate sustainability in its four-fold functions.

Dr. Sonny DC. Torres, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, represented TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson in the said gathering of PHEI leaders and IZN champions organized by the CHEd International Affairs Service (IAS).

Aside from THE IR and WURI, TAU's significant improvement in the UI Green Metric (UIGM) rankings, rising from 477th to 324th, has also become a source of pride for TAUians. TAU is now the leading institution in Region III and ranks fifth nationwide in environmental and educational sustainability, according to UIGM.

Focusing on TAU’s recent placements in IRs, Dr. Salunson emphasized the value of continuing improvement of TAU’s institutional branding and reputation in his Investiture on 18 December as the Second TAU President.

β€œThis significant leap is a reflection of our strategic focus on integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operations, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of sustainable practices in higher education,” Dr. Salunson underscored.
