Two of Tarlac Agricultural University's (TAU) top-notch athletes claimed victory at the 1st Philippine University Archery League (PUAL) held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Stadium on 23-24 November, proving TAU’s reputation as an excellent training ground for world-class archers.

Allyssa Faye R. Felipe sealed the bronze medal in the Olympic Round Recurve women category and, alongside Hazel Joy Daliva, earned the gold in the Team Event women Recurve. Daliva also clinched a bronze medal in the 70m Recurve women category. Both Felipe and Daliva ranked in the overall Top 4, ensuring their slots in the FISU World University Games (WUG) together with delegates from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Mirlee Valerie Balagso and Grace Cielo Duran also contributed to TAU's commendable performance, showcasing the TAUians’ unmatched passion and skills in archery.

β€œTo the TAU Archery Team, thank you for giving our University another national championship,” Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu, Sports Development Office (SDO) Director, posted on his Facebook wall, acknowledging Felipe and Daliva’s triumphs as another source of pride and inspiration. Dr. Cuzzamu also reiterated TAU and SDO’s full support to all TAU athletes who wish to represent the University in the national and international competitions.

Meanwhile, Felipe said she is grateful to the TAU administration for the opportunity to join the tournament but also admitted feeling a tinge of regret. β€œDespite the limited time to prepare and having to borrow arrows from a high school student, I’m still happy with my performance,” she shared.

Formerly known as the National Students Archery League organized by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FeSSAP), PUAL also served as a qualifying round for the prestigious WUG which will be hosted by Rhine-Ruhr Region and Berlin, Germany and is set for 16-27 July 2025.

TAU also fielded a separate team for men's events. While the team did not advance, its members are positive that the experience they gained has provided much-needed exposure for future games.

This achievement, also made possible by Ms. Rizafel B. Salcedo, coach, and Mr. Von Bismarck F. Ortiz, trainer, highlights TAU’s commitment to nurturing world-class athletes who excel on both local and international stages.
