Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) visited Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) for a ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and benchmarking initiative focused on the internationalization (IZN) journey, practices, and programs of TAU on 26 March, at the Office of the President (OP) Conference Room.

The SLC-SFLU delegation led by their College President, Rev. Fr. Roderick G. Villamar, learned about TAU’s strategies, best practices, linkages, virtual and cultural exchanges, and ways of globalizing education.

Dr. Benny S. Soliman, Director of External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA), welcomed everyone and expressed hope that the event would be the start of the two-way partnership of TAU and SLC-SFLU.

β€œWe welcome you to our humble University. Thank you for visiting and choosing us as a venue for your benchmarking visit. We’ll be sharing our best practices and we also hope to hear from you because this is a partnership so we are interested as well to learn from your college in terms of your IZN initiatives.”  Dr. Soliman said.

TAU President, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, represented by Dr. Mariella Alexes R. Espiritu, Director of the Office of Curriculum and Instruction (OCI), emphasized the importance of the said activity for both institutions.

In a message read by Dr. Espiritu, Dr. Salunson elaborated how MOUs lead to gaining access to β€œcomplementary strengths, private sector agility, specialized research facilities, industry networks, and cutting-edge pedagogical practices” which according to him are all present at SLC. β€œThis collaboration is not merely a strategy, it is a necessity for institutional success in our interconnected world. When TAU, SLC, and other HEIs unite, we create ecosystems of knowledge where diverse perspectives ignite transformation,” Dr. Salunson conveyed.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Villamar expressed immense gratitude they had for bringing this activity to fruition. β€œAs an institution with a relatively new office dedicated to internationalization, her (referring to former ELIA Director now CHED Region 1 Director, Dr. Christine N. Ferrer) sharing captured our attention and motivated us to look forward to the day when we can listen to and learn from the internationalization journey of your University. I am elated that the day is today.”

On the other hand, Dr. Sheila R. Lingaya, Assistant Director of ELIA steered the first part of the benchmarking activity as she presented TAU’s IZN journey. Afterward, Dr. Soliman shared various topics such as the functions of the International Relations Office, IZN at Home Programs, and Short-Term Programs. Concluding the discussion, Dr. Claire Anne A. Olivares, Dean of the College of Education (CEd), discussed TAU-CEd’s IZN Strategies in Action.

After the benchmarking discussions, delegates from SLC-SFLU toured the campus to visit some of TAU’s research facilities and laboratories.
