The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) community received an early Christmas gift as it secured the 324th spot globally and moved up an impressive 153 places from its 477th position last year in the 2024 UI GreenMetric (UIGM) World University Rankings (WUR). TAU now ranks 173rd in Asia, 5th in the Philippines, and 1st in Central Luzon, affirming its status as a leader in sustainability and innovation.

TAU’s significant rise in the rankings highlights its commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation. The University’s initiatives, like the Calao Forest Reserve, engineered bamboo facility and bambusetum, and SMART Agriculture Center among others, underscore its role as a benchmark for sustainable practices. Additionally, TAU’s educational and research programs continue to spark progress toward ecological balance and community resilience.

Thirty-seven sustainability champions from 14 higher education institutions (HEIs) representing five countries in Asia are now in Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) for the second edition of International SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Bootcamp (ISB) which will run from 9 - 14 December.

Consisting of 30 students and seven faculty mentors from the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and Thailand, the ISB operates fully in-person, enabling real-time interaction and comprehensive engagement for all participants.

During the opening program, keynote speaker and Regional Director of Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHEDRO I) Dr. Christine N. Ferrer focused her message on what SDGs represent and encouraged TAUians and ISB delegates to think globally, act locally, and forge partnerships across sectors and borders.
