Data from the PAGASA Agrometeorological and Upper Air Station at Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) shows that the heat index reached 38ยฐC at 11:00 AM today, 8 April (Wednesday), and rose to 39ยฐC by 1:00 PM. Currently classified under the "Extreme Caution" category, these temperatures indicate a higher risk of heat exhaustion and stress for those exposed to the sun for extended periods.

In response to these conditions, the University advises all TAUians to prioritize their health by monitoring for symptoms of heat stress and limiting physical exertion. It is highly recommended to stay hydrated, seek shaded areas, and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.ย

For real-time weather alerts and safety updates, please stay connected through the stationโ€™s official Facebook page: https://bit.ly/TAUAgromet.

The President of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, together with key university officials from Engineered-Bamboo and Planning and Development Office (PDO), meets with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and discusses the proposed construction of an eco-dryer, formally known as an economical and ecological bamboo dryer on 7 April at the Office of the University President (OUP) Conference Room.

The purpose of the collaborative meeting revolves around the development of sustainable and cost-effective technologies that could help the university and its communities. The eco-dryer is described as an invention that will help solve the problems facing farmers in terms of harvesting crops.

During the meeting, Ms. Wency Carmelo from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) discusses the attributes of the eco-dryer. These include the fact that the device is easy to construct at a relatively low cost and requires low energy. In addition, its use leads to low carbon emission levels.

Along with Ms. Carmelo are Mr. James Edelbert Ramos and Mr. Carl Lautican both Science Research Specialists from DOST.

Aligned with its unwavering commitment to advancing research excellence, the University President of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU)ย  Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson expressed his full support for the conduct of the โ€œTraining on Policy Brief/Recommendation Writing and Enhancement of Research Documentation,โ€ emphasizing the Universityโ€™s continuous drive to produce impactful, policy-relevant, and community-responsive research outputs.

The two-day training, held from April 7โ€“8, 2026 at the TAU Bamboo Training Center, is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice-President for Research, Extension (VP-RET) and Training under the leadership of Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, in collaboration with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), represented by Research Development Lead Dr. Antonio G. Lalusin. The initiative aims to capacitate faculty, researchers, and stakeholders in crafting concise and evidence-based policy briefs, as well as enhancing the quality and standardization of research documentation.

In his welcoming message, Vice-President for Academic and Student Affairs (VP-ASA) Dr. Sonny DC. Torres underscored the importance of strengthening the Universityโ€™s research foundation through skills development and collaboration, noting that such initiatives pave the way for more responsive and transformative academic outputs.

The second day of the training will feature a writing workshop and open forum, where participants are expected to actively engage in the development of modules, manuals, and protocols. This hands-on approach ensures that learning is translated into concrete outputs that will further enrich TAUโ€™s research ecosystem.

Through this initiative, TAU reaffirms its role as a hub for innovation and knowledge production, fostering a culture of research that contributes meaningfully to policy development and societal advancement.
