For the first time in the history of Tarlac Agricultural University, a softball team is set to represent the institution in the SCUAA III Regional Meet. From February 21 to 27, the 14 women of the TAU Softball Team will take the field at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) carrying not just their gloves and bats, but the weight of history.ย
It is a debut that has been a long time coming, and for these athletes, the game is just beginning.
Leading the charge is Team Captain Winnie Rose S. Santos, a second-year BS Development Communication student who will be holding down Center Field. As her and Kristine P. Salmoโs (Vice Captain) names appear on the lineup card, they represent more than just positions, they embody the hopeful swing of a program finding its footing.
Alongside them are familiar names like Hannah Abegail G. Bacani in Right Field, who will be tasked with setting the tone from the very first pitch. Coached by Ms. Minda M. Mondiguing, the roster reads like a cross-section of the University itself, with players coming from diverse courses at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF), College of Engineering and Technology (CET), College of Business and Management (CBM), and College of Education (CEd).
Ruby B. Bermido brings her experience to Shortstop, while Magielyn G. Daguio anchors Third Base. Frances Izy L. Dela Cruz patrols Center Field, and Katriona O. Fajardo holds down Second Base. This is not just a team of athletes, but a group of future professionals who happen to share a love for the diamond. Their teamwork and strategy will be tested against seasoned competitors from across the region.
