
ππππππππππ | TAU, KUβs IIGE forge partnership for Global COIL Implementation
A cooperative partnership initiating an effort to establish a global online classroom through Virtual Exchange (VE), utilizing the framework of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) between Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) and Kansai University (KU) for the Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE) was formalized on November 28, 2025 via a Zoom meeting.
Kansai Universityβs IIGE operates as a national hub for promoting and implementing Virtual Exchange programs across Japanese higher education. The institute's expertise will be crucial in guiding TAU's adoption of the COIL methodology.
This partnership agreement signifies TAUβs commitment to strengthening its international linkages, aligning with its strategic objectives for global engagement.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, University President, expressed profound gratitude for the newly established partnership. President Salunsonβs presence at the initiation meeting underscored the high institutional importance placed on collaborative activities that align with TAU's goal of expanding its global footprint.
Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel, Director of the External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) Office, also shared her enthusiasm, noting that the acceptance of their proposal by Kansai University fulfills a key strategic objective for TAU. She expressed hope for a productive engagement and looks forward to continuous collaborative meetings to drive the partnership forward.
The initial discussions saw key personnel from both institutions laying the groundwork for the collaboration: Ms. Caroline N. Gabis, Chief for Partnership Development of TAUβs ELIA Office, confirmed her earlier discussion with Kansai University, during which she formally requested to adapt the COIL framework to enhance TAUβs educational offerings. Ms. Mariya Byvakina, International Exchange and COIL Coordinator for IIGE, who manages international partnerships and facilitates numerous webinars, workshops, and training programs, expressed her delight in accepting the proposal and looked forward to the educational growth the partnership would bring.
The membership agreement officially welcomes TAU as a new network member of the Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE), marking a commitment to mutual educational and cultural exchange.
Closing the session, Dr. Villaruel reiterated her aspirations for the collaboration, hoping that through this work, both institutions can contribute significantly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), ultimately creating a meaningful impact on the needs of people in their respective communities and beyond.
