A research paper authored by Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students achieved a rare distinction at an international academic conference, standing out not only for its methodology but also for the academic level of its authors.

The study, titled โ€œEnglish Language Anxiety Among BEED Students: Basis for an Intervention Plan,โ€ was presented at the joint 1st International Conference on Graduate Research in Teacher Education (IC-GRaTE 2025) and the 3rd International Graduate Teacher Education Summit (IGTES), held at Palawan State University (PSU) in Puerto Princesa City, 19-21 November

Notably, the paper was the only undergraduate research accepted for presentation in a conference otherwise dominated by graduate studies. Beyond mere acceptance, the paper excelled in the competition. It was ranked 5th overall among 70 submitted and reviewed research manuscripts and was subsequently honored with a Best Paper Award.

The research team from Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU)ย  College of Education (CEd), composed of Princess Jenel L. Sapigao, Hannah Grace R. Braรฑa, Judith B. Corpuz, Marlon Jay G. Tamondong, and Mc Jhovan O. Tolenada, was advised by Mr. Cris Wendell O. Pinto.ย

This study investigates the critical issue of English language anxiety among BEED students in the Philippines, where English proficiency is essential for academic and professional success.ย

Using a mixed-methods approach with 106 survey respondents and eight follow-up interviews, the research found that most students experience a "Mildly Anxious" level of anxiety, driven by emotional, physiological, and cognitive factors such as embarrassment, shaking, and mental blocks.

Furthermore, their work examined English language anxiety among BEED students, identifying emotional, physiological, and cognitive barriers to fluent communication. In response, they proposed the intervention plan that involves practical communication strategies, stress management techniques, and hands-on classroom simulations.

The dual achievement, being the sole undergraduate entry and placing 5th overall, highlights both the quality of the research and the pressing relevance of its focus: preparing confident, effective future educators in the Philippines.
