In his commencement speech, Dr. Dexter R. Buted, the Guest of Honor for Tarlac Agricultural University’s (TAU) 3rd Midyear Commencement Exercises, reframed the very concept of failure for the graduates. He asserted that failure should not be seen as the opposite of success, but rather as an essential β€œtuition fee” one must pay to acquire true wisdom and competence. He further challenged the TAUians to embrace discomfort, urging them to actively seek out and find relief in the uncomfortable situations that foster growth.

Expanding on his message, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Administrator delivered a powerful call for compassion, declaring kindness to be a radical act in today’s world, a world he described as being in desperate need of such radicals. His parting truths were a clear directive: to fail mindfully, paying close attention to the lessons it imparts, and to practice kindness with a radical and stubborn consistency, especially when confronted by a world that often lacks it.
