The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recognized Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) as a leading force in the higher education landscape, conferring on the institution a major accolade at the 2025 IZN Champions of Nation-building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on 10 December.

Representing the University, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson accepted the honor, which places TAU among the country's most esteemed institutions recognized for transformative impact. "On behalf of the entire TAU community, we are profoundly honored and elated," Dr. Salunson stated. He emphasized that the distinction serves as a "resounding testament to our collective efforts in upholding inclusive internationalization, academic excellence, innovative research, and unceasing commitment to nation-building through quality service."

In his remarks sent to the Information Unit, Dr. Salunson extended his deepest gratitude to the CHED, particularly to Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and to the International Affairs and Services (IAS) Director, Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla. He noted that the acknowledgment powerfully validates TAUโ€™s mission and energizes its community to pursue greater heights. Addressing the University's administrators, faculty, staff,ย  students, alumni, and partners, he declared, โ€œthis achievement is yours,โ€ expressing his hope that TAU would continue to shine as a beacon of impactful higher education.

This latest recognition underscores TAU's growing stature on the global stage, highlighted by its recent inclusions in major international rankings. The University was ranked within the 1001โ€“1500 bracket in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings and achieved an impressive 93rd place among the Top 400 Global Innovative Universities in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI).

The ICONS 2025 ceremony, organized by CHED, acknowledged Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) across multiple categories, including the Global Citizenship Award, Sustainability Award, and Internationalization Leadership Award, among others. The event also acknowledged institutions that have excelled in research-intensive global rankings such as QS and THE World University Rankings (WUR).

TAU's receipt of the ICONS award solidifies its position as a premier university dedicated to fostering innovation, sustainability, and meaningful global engagement, directly contributing to the nation's progress.
